How to ask
Skip vague requests. Give it real details:
Find a table for 4 tomorrow around 7:30 p.m. near downtown Raleigh, mid-range Italian, outdoor seating if possible.
You'll get a short list with actual bookable times. If nothing fits, just follow up — "what about 6:30 instead" — and it re-checks rather than starting over.
The permission prompt — and where your card actually goes
This is the part worth reading twice. When you pick a time, ChatGPT asks permission to share your name and email with the reservation partner to fill in the form — you'll see an explicit prompt with a choice to allow once, always allow, or decline. Nothing is shared silently.
If a card is required, you enter it on the reservation partner's own site — never inside the chat. And your confirmation email always comes from OpenTable, Resy, or Yelp directly, never from OpenAI. If a message about your "ChatGPT reservation" asks you to click a link to "verify payment," don't — check the reservation the same way you'd check any unexpected invoice email: independently, not through the link.
Where it doesn't work
It's tied to specific ChatGPT models and isn't available on Work, Enterprise, Edu, or Business accounts. It also doesn't work in voice mode yet — you'll need to type to search and book.
